Tropical Art & Nature Retreat

Explore the beauty of the Big Island while you expand your creativity. Have fun and learn new skills in this 5 day/6 night tropical retreat designed to delight nature lovers and artists of all levels.

• Painting en plein air daily with guided instruction
• Sharing two healthy, organic meals a day

• Soaking in naturally geothermal heated warm ponds 
• Viewing the newest land and beaches on the planet 
• Exploring local scenic and cultural hot spots

Master watercolorist and landscape painter Abbie Rabinowitz will facilitate daily en pleinair painting excursions to local scenes. Her creative lesson plans integrate insightful tips and supportive critiques. Students may work in watercolor, oils or acrylics. 

Over the 5 days of the retreat we will choose from dozens of possible adventures and scenic painting spots, all within a short drive or walk.

  • Early bird sunrise over the ocean

Abbie’s beautiful, light filled studio will be available for students to paint indoors. All levels of experience are welcome.

You can choose from a variety of Airbnb and private rentals. These include bungalows, homes, and apartments located by Puna’s most beautiful scenic byway, the Red Road (Kalapana Kapoho Beach Road). Browse to find what’s available from island style off-grid cottages to luxury rentals. Local Airbnbs

My house and art studio 

You can participate in daily mind & soul soothing yoga. Take a peek at the schedule of classes led at hOMe Yoga studio just two blocks from my studio.
Monday to Friday: Your body will be lovingly fed two delicious island fresh organic homemade meals.
*In addition Sunday dinner & Saturday breakfast are included!

Robin Worley and Abbie Rabinowitz are island residents, artists and all round fun people!

Your chef for the retreat is longtime island resident Robin Worley. She has a green thumb in the garden and is an expert chef in the kitchen. She loves preparing healthy island cuisine from local organic fruits and vegetables. Robin will surprise you with her wealth of knowledge about the history and nature of the Big Island. She is also an avant garde fashion designer, a visionary painter and papermaché artist. 

Abbie Rabinowitz is a fine artist painter (MFA) and also a certified yoga teacher (200 hrs TTC). She’s been painting en pleinair landscapes along the Red Road in Hawaii for over 20 years. Abbie is a master watercolorist, seasoned painter and welcomes students at all levels. She will facilitate your experience with encouragement and gentle critiques. She is insanely inspired by the Big Island and is passionate about sharing her inspiration with others.

Art workshop and meals
: $750

Accommodations: Prices vary according to your choice of local rentals. Students will be responsible for finding and reserving a place to stay. There are many vacation rentals available close to my home and art studio. Please contact me if you would like recommendations of places to stay.

Note: Price does not include accommodation, airfare or car service. Excursions will require use of personal vehicles. We can help coordinate shared car rental and suggest rental services.

Space is limited. Early registration encouraged!
We are choosing to keep this group small to optimize the experience and comfort level for all attendees.
There is a maximum of eight participants.

Full refund if canceled by December 1st, 2019
Half refund if canceled by January 1st, 2020
No refund if canceled after January 1st, 2020
