Strands of Light
Strands of Light began with a desire to explore the Hawaiian landscape in a new way — through the fractured, rhythmic surface of Oriented Strand Board. OSB carries its own story: layered, compressed, splintered, and yet luminous when touched by color. It mirrors the way I experience the natural world here in Puna — not as a static scene, but as a constantly shifting field of light, heat, memory, and movement.
My choice to use OSB also came from wanting to repurpose boards left from an earlier project. They leaned patiently and silently against my studio wall for over a year, yet the fragmented shapes embedded in the surface kept calling to me.
Painting on this surface lets me break the landscape open into facets. I follow the grain, the fragments, the unexpected paths that emerge. What results is part garden, part lava flow, part dream — a world where light shimmers through jungle canopies, Pele’s glow ignites the night, and familiar places like the Red Road become reimagined through abstraction.
This series is a celebration of wildness, transformation, and the luminous color of Hawaiʻi — a place that continues to shape my work, my practice, and my heart.
This page is a private viewing for my collectors only until December 6th when I present my work to the public at the 2025 Paradise Studio Tour. As one of my previous buyers you get first dibs and a loyalty discount. Please contact me if you want to purchase a painting from this series.
