French Cafe

I once spent a year living and painting in the south of France in the coastal town of the Cassis. The summers on the french Mediterranean are glorious, full of color, tourists, and the most spectacular sunsets I have ever seen. The winter months, on the other hand, were a bit stark and chilly. To warm myself up in the mornings, I frequented a local cafe where people socialized to chat, read the paper, smoke Gauloise, and drank coffee or pastis, This is one of the typical morning scenes in a busy cafe where I sat among the locals and painted each morning with a grand creme on the side.
