Description
During the summer of 2018, lava flowed ferociously only a few miles from my house on the Big Island of Hawaii, creating a lava lake and river to the ocean. Remarkably my neighborhood was spared from the lava flow and I actually got used to watching Pele’s nightly red glow from my window. The plume billowing from Fissure 8 became the focus for my paintings at this time. “Fissure 8” is a nocturnal view of the plume from the fissure seen just over the horizon.
