Card Game

I had the opportunity to paint a number of card games during the time I lived in the south of France. Whether they knew it or not, the local characters who met daily to socialize, drink and play cards in their favorite cafe became the live models and subjects for my paintings. The expression on their faces and postures reveal the intrigue of the game. The subject is people, but the elements of overlapping planes of color and pencil lines create the formal structure of the painting.
