Description
Fissure 8 was the largest volcanic fissure to develop during the 2018 eruption in the Big Island of Hawaii. It was a large mound that grew into a small volcano, starting from a fissure in the earth that began spewing lava directly from cracks in the road just 3 miles from my home on the island. I could see the large plume from Fissure 8 as it soared over the horizon, watching it daily as its glow lit up the night. The light show was mesmerizing. This painting is an impression that Fissure 8 etched deeply in my memory.
