Whenever I doodle, semi-consciously or unconsciously, the images my hand creates are flowers sitting in a flower pot or vase. Often these doodles show a variety of angles looking at this same bouquet of flowers. I think my subconscious has retained the many years of my life that I have spent studying and interpreting flowers as form. Flowers continuously inspire me with their colors and perfect form. It’s one of my challenges as a representational artist to study and portray cliche subjects (such as flowers) so that the subject transcends itself as cliche, and becomes a statement about observation and artistic interpretation.
