Blue Mango (Sold)

Description

Blue Mango is painted on nearby Pohoiki Road, a road just near the Red Road. The road is a curvy, narrow road lined with ancient mango trees that grow so near the road that you have to drive around the trunks to avoid hitting them. Part or Pohoiki road was covered with lava in the 2018 flow, but the end that’s lined with mango trees is still accessible by car. I have always wanted to paint pleinair landscapes along that road. Painting among the tall and old mango trees is like painting among the ancients, our elders. The colors are exaggerated but the richness of the trees, trunks, branches, and the road itself called for a richness in color in my color choices.
