Description
Someone asked me recently how many times I painted this road.
I honestly don’t know so I simply said “Many”. Perhaps I painted the Red Road over a hundred times using both oil and watercolor. Probably more. I have not gotten tired of this magical ribbon of a road that changes dramatically depending on one’s location on the road, the time of day and especially what kind of weather.
It’s a wondrous thing to know your happy place and to be able to paint outdoors (year round) in the full presence of natural beauty. The road of course is no longer ‘red’ since the red cinder road has long since been paved over with black asphalt. However I still paint it red because of the red tinged cinder and rust colored foliage that falls by its side. For me this road represents old Hawaii still in its present glory.
