Description
Bus Stop is a pleinair painting, meaning painted directly outdoors from the subject. A painting buddy and I wanted to paint an urban scene. Since she lived walking distance to the New Haven green we carried our easels and paints there to find ourselves an interesting subject. I was attracted to the bus stop because of the intricate window design, but mostly because of all the people hanging out on the city bench in various poses. Some of my ‘models’ were curious and stopped by to check on my progress when they noticed me painting. Usually when I paint in public I prefer not to be approached, but on this day it was fun. By engaging with my subject it allowed me to place myself in the setting as well.
