Big Sur #2, pleinair, painted during one of my art retreats at the Esalen retreat center in Big Sur, California. The view from the cliffs at Esalen offer an ever shifting view of the Pacific coastline. Depending on the time of day, mist can encompass the coast within minutes. Colors in the water change as the reflected sunlight on cliffs shift, and as the tides reveal more or less of the rocks and kelp beneath the water’s surface.
